What's Your Story?

Your Story, Your Way

Personal history can:

  • Motivate: Help your loved ones see a future in difficult times.
  • Clarify: Perhaps a complex set of circumstances need to be laid to rest once and for all.
  • Inform: Help family members and friends trace important events in your life.
  • Educate: Perhaps there are lessons from your life that could be passed on. Why not?

Personal stories and histories can bring together the loose ends of life.

These days, with personal computers and printing on demand, getting your story down and out is easier than it used to be.

However, the process can be overwhelming for those not use to the writing and editorial process. Help is at hand!

About the Helper

My name is Bruce Miller. I've got a unique background of writing and technology. I've been involved with technology since the mid 1980's and have been helping friends and associates along the way.

Back before personal computers were abundant, I compiled and produced my maternal grandmother's poetry. Through a chance discovery, I learned she had been writing it silently for 50 years. Her book of poetry was a hit in her home town and a great excuse for a party.

For 12 years I was a contributing editor of Puget Sound Computer User Magazine and contributor to national publications. The last 14 years I was the IT manager for a national association of non-fiction writers.

In various capacities, I've overseen the production of several 100-page books.

My combination of writing, technology, and organizational management is well suited to help you bring your story together.

Give me a call at 206 347 7600 if you would like to discuss how I might be able to help.

Examples

Most people think that a book is the only way to tell a story. Not so! Here are some options:

  • Six-panel, envelope size: This is suited for a short story that you can easily stick in a #10 envelope and mail. Click here for an actual example. The file is a PDF file.
  • Audio Recording: An audio recording can be developed as a stand-alone audio file or combined into a computer presentation. With any audio recording, award-winning audio editing is available.
  • Video Recording: Video is big these days, but is more complicated than audio. Nevetheless, getting comfortable in front of the camera is part of the help that can be offered.
  • Booklet: As was done for Grace Small mentioned above, a small booklet can be produced.

There are all-kinds of possiblities on how you record and present your story. I'm more than happy to bound around ideas with you. Give me a call at 206 588 5267.

Services

My services can include:

  • Editing: Minor or substantial editing for grammar, organization, and flow.
  • Interviews: Sometimes someone who is adept at asking questions can help spark ideas and draw out material.
  • Organization: If you have a lot of material, you may need help organizing content into logical groups.
  • Planning: Where to start? Where to go? Breaking a project down into smaller tasks can help.
  • Technology Help: You may have a computer, but are not quite sure how to use it to develop your personal history. There are a lot of options. Simple is best, so that's what I aim for.
